After a little summer break, Bike Lunch Tuesdays are back at Six Apart!

Tuesday Oct 2nd we're gonna head over to the Museum of Modern Art for a speedy art viewing and take advantage of the fact that the first Tuesday of the month is free.

Food? Well you can bring your own, or perhaps we'll stop at Whole Foods or What's Up Dog on the way there... eat in Yerba Buena across the street from MoMA?

Leave the office at Noon?

Justin Herman Plaza

On a really hot, really sunny weekday, there's nothing like people-watching down at Justin Herman Plaza. In 1990 the plaza was nothing but the brick plaza, the butt-ugly fountain, and the abandoned double-decker concrete of the Embarcadero Freeway towering over it. Today it's got palm trees, bay views, and the butt-ugly fountain. (California law prohibits the removal of public artwork without the artist's permission, and he said he liked it fine where it was.)

There's a bunch of food down there, the trick is to find someplace where you can get the food back outside fast enough to enjoy the sun. I had two slices at Parkway Pizza. I don't know what anybody else had, because they all ditched me so they could cower in the shade.

We're all sweaty now, though.

BLT: Justin Herman Plaza

This week's bike to lunch day was a bit different, as we decided to go on a Wednesday rather than Tuesday. Blame it on schedules, blame it on laziness.

At least we went this week, which is more than I can say about other weeks. For our lunch we choose 'Frjtz' in Hayes Valley. This was my old neighborhood and I've loved going to this cafe ever since 'Mad Magda's Tea House' closed and Frjtz took its place.

Frjtz does four things and does them well.

Sandwiches: their sandwiches are creative, but not so alien that taste comes second to culinary art. I had the Pollock for lunch (the menu items are all named after artists) which is an open face tuna sandwitch on thick foccacia with melted mozzarella, tomatos and capers on top.

Salads: You may or may not be a salad person, but the salads at Frjtz are excellent. My favorite is the Gauguin with avocado, mango, macademia nuts and smoked salmon.

Crepes: They have both sweet at savory crepes at Frjtz. For some reason you can throw a rock anywhere in San Francisco and hit at least two crepe restaurants (and probably a third if it didn't close while the rock was in the air). A dime-a-dozen and easy to make bland, or at least unimpressive given the deluge of crepes this city weathers daily. Simple and tasty, the crepes at Frjtz are second only to Ti-Couz.

Fries: Of course, the namesake, their fries. The fries themselves are crispy, salty and delicously but what really puts them over the top is the wide selection of dipping sauces. From wasabi mayo, to balsamic ketchup, to spicy mustard there are almost 20 different sauces to choose from. Definitely do not forget the fries when you go!

Last but not least, if you go, make sure to stake out a table in the outside back patio. It can get crowded on warm summer nights, but its worth it as it can get equally hot and stuffy inside. When its cold they have heat lamps and the surrounding buildings help keep the wind out.

Boxed Food

This week's "Bike to Lunch Day" was brought to you by the folks at "Boxed Foods Company". Yann found this place and it seemed perfect for a day when several people had more important things to be doing than eating lunch outside in the beautiful 70 degree San Francisco weather (me included :( ).

This lunch shop is simply sandwiches and salads. Everything you order gets put in a box. I'm not sure how unique this is from any other lunch place that has to-go boxes, but the sandwiches sure were tasty!

It was fairly crowded there, and took a long time to get our order in. However I think everyone got what they wanted and now we know where to go for good, transportable food!

What do you think about going to Financial district at the border of the italian distric ?
I don't know this place, here is what I've found (perhaps someone has a known and good place to share?) :

sandwitches -- if we have less time and less money : boxed food company (yelp)
in between? -- Myth Cafe (yelp)

Bike to lunch Tuesday

This Tuesday's bike to lunch was to Pancho Villa near the Ferry building. The weather was fairly warm with patches of clouds or patches of sun depending on how full your half glasses of water tend to be.

We got our food after fending off some ravenous birds that were invading the restaurant and took it to pier 5. This pier is all wood and has a lot of benches to sit on and a lot of great views.

Taco's seemed to be the popular lunch item today; I got two fish tacos which were great. Its hard enough to find some place that has fish tacos, and Pancho Villa actually has two kinds of fish tacos.

Great food, great views. Why don't YOU come next time?

Bike to lunch day

it's a bike to lunch day. I was a little bit scared when we rode reverse and wove in and out queuing cars. but not so lot. I ate "Three-Bean "Ballpark" Chili" with tortilla at Chili Up!. I couldn't understand the other one not tortilla that the casher said. when we were enjoying on the roof Garth taught me it was "corn bread". aha, there isn't a so much difference. anyway, it was good food and good riding.

「バイクでランチ」に参加。いまいちサンフランシスコでの自転車の乗り方がわからないので、現地の人とツーリングするのは肌で覚える感じでいいですね。とはいえ、基本的に車道走るのに逆走は良いのか？大きな一方通行の通りの左端から右端へ斜めに移動もいいの？とか。まだ、ちと怖い。行ったのはファイナンシャルディストリクトにある Crocker Galleria というショッピングモール。そこにあった Chili Up! という店。美味かったよ。
